I changed the shape of the face. Played with the lighting. Add a mustache dont know if I'll stay with mustache made from polys. Might try some sort of hair sim modifier.

Tried poly-painting in Z-brush. Also made a normal and displacement map to see how it would look. Color correction in Photoshop.

This is a model of Daniel Day Lewis. I was trying to model his character from the movie Gangs of New York. But I'm not sure it really looks like him. I think my next step is to retopologize him.

SSS Fast skin shader test

I tested the Scatter Sub Surface map. The last skin test I did was with the Arc and Design mat in max. I think this method is better. Looks more like skin to me. Think im going to start on his eyes and hair next.

Skin and Normal maps





UVed the head in Z-brush using their awesome new UV mapper tool/plugin. Skin textured in photoshop. Then did some modeling in Z-brush for fun to see how normal maps work with 3D Max. Not a bad test. Far from perfect but I'm learning. 1min 40 sec rendered in HD using mental ray.

Generic Sub-D head





A sub-D head made from a plane. Model in 3D max 2010. Used some of the cool new tools in max. Took it in to Z-brush just to mess around for a bit...about 20min work in Zbrush and about 10 hours modeling the head in max. I havent modeled a sub-D head in years so I'm a little slow.

Door of Doom! final


I'm going to call this done. And I final gave it a title "Door of Doom!" lol. Calling gothic door knocker just didn't feel right any more. It was fun. I learned a lot about Z-brush and learned I have a lot more to learn. Not just about Zbrush but all aspects of 3D creation. Hopefully I'll have more finished work soon.

Tried to make a younger mans head. Not too happy with it but its progress. No reference used. My next model I think I'll start using reference. May be try to make a historical figure bust.

Old man sketch

This started as a sphere in Z-brush...about 6 hours of work give or take. Think I might add more to this one. I really need to practice doing hair in Z-brush well among many other things but I like the way it turned out for the most part. Also need to brush up on my anatomy. When I look at it I feel like its a bit off in some areas maybe he just needs eyebrows, don't know.

Gargoyle



Modified the model of the door knocker to make this gargoyle. Still learning Z brush. As I learn more and more about what can be achieved with this amazing software I'm continuously say to my self, OMG this is the greatest thing ever lol! I have a lot to learn but I'm so happy to do so. Zbrush is a dream to work with.

No where near done with this. Its going to be for my Gothic door knocker. The other file I was working on was not saved correctly but its all good since the new work is much closer to what I had in mind. still WIP. Think I'm going to start modeling the ornament design that will go around the head next.
